Sleighride / Introduction (Original)

Ba-dap-bap-Bap-baa-daddle-aa-Dat-daddle-addle-aa-daaaaa-Okay!
This is my Christmas tape. *laugh*
Or, well, a CD... or however you're listening to it
whatever you're listening to it on
if you're listening to it at all
but if you weren't... how could you... hea...? well

um

I should probably mention before I start that I'm not
such a big Christmas person:
don't tend to celebrate, never really ask for anything,
and don't even usually give gifts to people.
Not even family, extended family.
Not in a mean-spirited way, you know...
Could be lack of confidence, some symptom of disaffection
a bad memory attached to the season perhaps
but just know that it's not because I don't care
...well, it might be,
but if that was so, I probably wouldn't admit it publicly

uh

I had the idea to make a album of Christmas songs about two months ago,
but I didn't start work on it proper until about two weeks ago.
It's sort of rushed, and y'know, sounds like it.
The whole thing is that I wanted it to sound like it was recorded
and played back on cassette tape,
but it wasn't, and isn't, so doesn't...
It sounds basically like what it is:
a low-quality digital mixdown of an average digital recording

so uh

I wanted to do the whole thing on the ukulele at one point,
but it wouldn't stay tuned for an entire song.
I ordered a new one but it never arrived.
The website says that it hasn't even been shipped yet.
Not sure what's happening with that.
I decided to tune an acoustic guitar down and digitally pitch-shift it, but

that sounded awful,
so eventually I just put a capo on the fifth fret and played only the top

four strings.

and

um

...this is a very unwieldy introduction to an album of upbeat Christmas

songs. like a newly-built road with a 3-ft high brick wall just a little way

into it. you know

okay, so Merry Christmas.
The album is called May All Your Christmases Be... Christmases
which is a hilarious joke that I thought of.
The joke plays on the idea of repetition being funny in and of itself,
which... I mean, it isn't, really.

There's no real 'hymns' on it,
that wasn't a personal choice,
just the way it turned out...
It's mainly what I guess you could call 'American Santa Songs',
which is fitting, ha ha, America a symbol of consumerism,
and Santa the figurehead. And isn't that the true meaning of Christmas?
Ha ha. That's my signature 'biting wit' in action.

"Americhristmas" indeed! Ha ha! um, Spelt like A-M-E- you know
it doesn't matter

Well okay, um, here we go, enjoy:

(i'll try not to talk all the way through it
but i can't promise anything
and you shouldn't expect anything either
what do you want from me?
...what do I want from you?)
